Nigel Roe Physio

The Laboratory Spa & Health Club

Nigel Roe is a New Zealand physiotherapist with 20 years  experience and a special interest in sports injuries and orthopaedic rehabilitation. He qualified from Otago School of Physiotherapy in NZ, in 1990, and went on to complete a postgraduate diploma in manipulative physiotherapy at Otago University in 1993. This is a year-long full time course for specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and pain of spinal or limb origin.

He has worked for 14 years in private practice, and spent 3 years with North Harbour New Zealand Provincial Rugby Team, 4 years with the Fijian International Rugby Team, and 6 years as London based Saracens Rugby Medical Team leader. From September 2004 until December 2009, he ran private clinics at Triyoga in Primrose Hill, and the Laboratory Spa & Health Clubs in Muswell Hill and Hendon, bringing his extensive background in orthopaedic and sports injury treatment and rehabilitation to the general public. As of January 2010 and a move from London, he is commuting and based solely at The Laboratory Spa & Health Club in Muswell Hill.

In addition to sporting injuries, he assesses and treats a wide range of occupational, post surgical and personal injury problems in all age groups. Injury prevention including running video analysis, running shoe assessment and advice, muscle imbalance/functional movement screening and postural assessment are also available. Education to help you understand your injury/problem, and exercise to address contributing flexibility, strength and faulty movement patterns are key components to this preventative approach. A closely supervised and structured rehabilitation exercise programme, where appropriate, is prescribed for home and/or gym setting as an integral part of treatment.

Nigel’s treatment techniques are principally “hands on”, using joint mobilising and manipulation techniques, muscle and soft tissue release, and trigger point release techniques, Laser and ultrasound electrotherapy are available as adjuncts to treatment.

He has developed an extensive network of London based medical consultants specialising in upper limb, spinal and lower limb orthopaedic surgery, and he can advise on referral to the best of medical care where necessary.

Nigel, originally from Gisborne New Zealand,  has been based in the UK for 14 years, married a local lass, and in his spare time loves skiing, running, tennis, mountain biking, surfing and of course rugby, but now as a spectator!  He has overcome a number of personal injury problems including knee surgery, muscle tears, ligament strains, and back and neck injuries, and so has a good understanding of the problems and frustration involved in personal injury.

He is a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and The Organisation of Physiotherapists in Private Practice, and is registered with all major health Insurance companies EXCEPT BUPA (a change in contractual obligations required with the new BUPA network, established in October 2009, has made re-tendering for BUPA registration regrettably non-viable at present). Please feel free to ask if you are unsure about your injury or problem’s suitability for treatment.
